SomerStreets Returns
Join the Gilman Square Neighborhood Council and the Arts Council for the latest SomerStreets event, the Gilman Square Arts and Music Festival. Located at 238 Pearl St on Saturday, Sept. 9, from noon to 6 p.m. (Rain date on Sunday, Sept. 10.)
Activities, artists, and food vendors will be out on Pearl St and in the Mad Oyster lot, including Daddy Joes, Dean’s Concession, Neighborhood Produce, Scott Brothers Kitchen, Tipping Cow, and Winter Hill Brewing.
SomerStreets is the City of Somerville’s take on the internationally-renowned Open Streets concept, closing busy city streets to vehicles, and opening them up for cycling, walking, dancing, running, and other modes of activity. Through SomerStreets, the City and its community partners aim to promote and encourage easy access to physical activity, and reconnecting with neighborhoods and businesses and their unique cultural elements in a thriving urban environment.
9/11 Remembrance Ceremony
Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the City of Somerville Department of Veterans’ Services invite residents to a remembrance ceremony marking the anniversary of 9/11. On Monday, Sept. 11, the City will hold a procession and memorial ceremony to recognize the 22nd anniversary of 9/11. Anyone interested in joining the procession should meet at the Cedar Street entrance to the Community Path at 8:30 a.m. A speaking program and wreath laying ceremony will follow at approximately 9 a.m. at the 9/11 memorial in Davis Square, with the presentation and retiring of the colors by the Somerville Police and Somerville Fire Honor Guards. East Somerville “Back to School” Block Party Moved Indoors
Due to weather, the Sunday, September 10, Back to School Block Party in East Somerville will move to La Brasa Restaurant, on 124 Broadway. Visit the East Somerville Main Streets Facebook for more event information.
Rock + Roll Yard Sale Postponed
The Somerville Rock + Roll Yard Sale in Union Square is postponed to Sunday, Sept. 17 from noon to 6 p.m. Featuring locally sourced indie vendors selling a fun and eclectic mix of vinyl records, vintage, and DIY handmade goods, this is the perfect way to support independent small businesses.
