On Monday, March 27, at 6 p.m. Tufts University is hosting alumnae Medford City Councilor Kit Collins and Somerville City Councilor Judy Pineda Neufeld for a discussion on the importance of local politics. Register here.

Somerville Launches First Participatory Budget

The Somerville City Council has announced its first ever Participatory Budgeting process to allocate $1 million in funds for City improvement projects. Community members 12+ can now submit ideas for funding online, by phone, and in person through Saturday May 20. Learn more at public budgeting at www.somervillema.gov/pb/.

Somerville residents are invited to a virtual workshop on Tuesday, March 28, at 7PM to learn budget basics and to share their thoughts on what should be prioritized for fiscal year 2024. Learn more about budgeting here.

Shots fired, damaged businesses and parked cars

Tuesday night, March, 21, Somerville Police responded to the area of 31 Temple Street for reports of shots fired. Preliminary investigation indicates that the occupants of two vehicles were shooting at each other.  These same two vehicles fled the area west on Broadway and again shots were fired in the area of Main Street between Moreland Street and Fremont Street where police recovered an additional 16 shell casings. No injuries were reported. The storefront glass of several businesses and numerous parked cars sustained damage after being struck by stray bullets.
